Today was the final home game for our Men’s basketball team. What a disappointing season for them. They started the season off with a lot of promise but ended winning just 2 out of their last 15 with a 10 game losing streak to end the season. Nothing special going on during the game but we did have to coordinate the senior festivities for after the game. We had to make sure their framed pictures where there and help line up each players families. After the game each player got a moment to speak about their time at Wright State. This was something that took a loooooooong time. The game was over around 9 and the final person stopped speaking a little after 10! It was cool to watch those players speak about their experiences at Wright State and how they bonded with one another. This reminded me of playing football my first couple years of college and how I bonded with my teammates.
Today I was able to add to my list of new accomplishments. With the help of the Marketing Assistant I managed the orchestration of the women’s basketball game over the headset at the media desk. She was very good about talking to me and letting me know about how everything operated and was going to be prior to the game starting, so I was able to get the process going in my head early.
Leading up to the game we did our usual routine of getting the concourse set up and hanging the necessary signage. For this game, instead of my usual I made sure I was set up with my script at the media desk and made sure to keep track of the time. It was very important for me to follow the time on the score board as it was the mark that I had to align with on my scripts. Throughout the game I was in contact with our DJ, the band, and our video coordinators. I made sure that they were aware of their place in the scripts and notified everyone when there were about to be Media timeouts so they could be prepared. I learned the basics of orchestrating the game. I was told, and definitely understand, that the Men’s basketball games move faster and that the orchestration of those games would take a little getting used to. It was very fun for me because I got a deeper look into all that is done in a position that I may potentially want to fill in the future. |
