One of the first things I did when I started my internship is script writing. I was told it was one of the things that would be asked in if I have done in an interview. Today I did the second thing that would be asked if I have done, Donation Requests. Brandon says that donation requests are something that is done on a consistent basis throughout the year and it is important to keep up with them. Some of the things people request are: autograph basketballs, t-shirts, free tickets amongst other things. The important thing with donation requests is not make sure no NCAA violations are being committed. This is something that sucks for requests coming from High Schools. Because there could potentially be a recruit at a high school we cannot donate much to them and their requests have to be denied.
There are many repeat requests year to year I am told and some request things they know they cannot get. The default is to give them tickets and t-shirts. All in all I only had to deny a few requests. The hardest part was actually getting the t-shirts, mugs, and koozies together to give to the people who made the requests. Also, getting a basketball signed I am told is one of the toughest things to do. Seems like a simple task however the basketball coaches give no priority to get them done and sometimes they even lose track of the basketball.
